DEFENCE CONNECT END USER AGREEMENT
*** Attention mobile users *** If you are using your mobile phone to access Defence Connect, you are required to secure your device with a Biometric lock screen. Additionally, if you are use the Jive Mobile App, you are required to turn on the App's own lock screen by going to Settings -> Password & Security -> Enable Lock Screen
There are a number of documents linked at the end of this agreement. Where possible these will be replicated in Community Management Security Orders.
Please ensure you read and understand all the documentation.
Who can access Defence Connect and at what Security Classification?
- Defence Connect is provided to serving Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, Royal Air Force personnel, MOD Civil Servants, sponsored contractors, reserve forces and cadets by Defence Head Office, Information and Knowledge Exploitation (IKX) team through the Defence Gateway
- It is accessible to authorised users and may be used to share OFFICIAL information only (the platform is not accredited to host OFFICIAL SENSITIVE material). Under no circumstances must any higher classification material be placed on Defence Connect.
- Please note that the use of Departmental information systems and services are subject to monitoring. Any content held is considered to be the property of the MOD and may be made accessible to the Chain of Command or investigators without prior recourse.
Conditions of Use
- Do adhere to the Acceptable use policy (JSP 740) - Publications - GOV.UK (JSP 740) by behaving professionally and courteously when using Defence Connect, as you would with any other workplace ICT. If it would not be considered acceptable to say something out loud at work, then you shouldn’t say it on Defence Connect.
- Do respect people's confidence - do not post anything that might breach the confidence of another individual. For example, an email received from an individual must not be placed in a discussion without first obtaining that individual’s consent.
- At no point shall content be copied from Defence Connect and published on Public Social Media sites such as Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter as this could potentially lead to a Data Protection issue leading to an investigation from the Information Commissioner’s Office. This is in line with JSP740 policy.
- Do respect copyright and intellectual property - Don't post anything that might in any way infringe any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, database right or other similar right of any person or organisation.
- Do respect other people's personal information - Don't post any messages containing another person’s personal information (eg home address, personal telephone number etc) without first obtaining the relevant person’s explicit consent.
- Do use Defence Connect appropriately: for MOD business or to discuss shared interests with MOD colleagues. Do not promote personal business interests on Defence Connect.
- Do report any misuse of the service. If you identify any misuse please click "report abuse" then select the required option so that the appropriate moderation action can be taken.
- Do get the most out of Defence Connect by reading and observing the community guidance and best practice available from the "overview" page.
- Do comply with Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG) and Defence Service Manual accessibility guidelines .
- Do NOT post fast moving animation or GIFs.
- Do use forename and surname, rather than abbreviations or nicknames.
- Do NOT use rank in your display name. DC is a rank agnostic community.
- Under no circumstances are password-protected documents to be hosted on Defence Connect. Such documents will be automatically quarantined. If you identify such information, please click "report abuse" then select the "private information" option so that the appropriate moderation action can be taken.
- It is impossible for the Community Management team to see everything on Defence Connect. We need YOUR help. Please do use the report post function to bring awareness to inappropriate content. Once reported this content is hidden from all regular users.

By proceeding to use Defence Connect you are agreeing to ACCEPT the following statements:
- I have read and agree to comply with the Defence Connect Security Operating Procedures (SyOps).
- I have read the Defence Connect Privacy Notice.
- I am authorised to access this service.
- I will comply with the Acceptable use policy (JSP 740) - Publications - GOV.UK
- I understand that this Service makes use of the information I provide, and I consent to this (see Defence Connect Privacy Notice below).
- I am aware that the service may be monitored and consent to this.
- I have completed the "Protecting Information" course that is appropriate to my role.
- If you are an external user you will read the EAG SyOps in your group.
